A hard road

A hard road

The Road goes ever on and down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone, and I must follow, if I can. Pursuing it with eager feet, until it joins some larger way where many paths and errands meet. And whither then I cannot say. J.R.R. Tolkien

The Spirit of Australia – Two of 8ight

Not too sure about the eager feet bit. Its Bloody hot out there!
No I suggest that we replace ‘eager feet’ with ‘Land Rover Defender.’ Yes that’s a much better idea, we may as well travel in comfort after all. Well as comfortable as a Defender can be that is.

Petrol Station

Petrol Station

Lomonisity in the Australian Outback.

Murnpeowie Station in Far North South Australia.
A lone bowser stands like a sentry on guard duty at the back of the homestead.

Apparently the Strzelecki Track used to pass within spitting distance of the old homestead door?
I can’t say for sure, but what I do know is this.
The station receives it’s mail twice a week, that’s two round trips and a 1000km later.

I should know because I delivered it and what a fantastic experience it was too.

The mail must get through, and it does thanks to Land Rover reliability (he says with both fingers crossed behind his back)
